These points are important for your site

Find out what you need to pay attention to in order to make your site legally compliant

A website must be legally compliant – otherwise, it can be expensive! Warning letters, fines, and loss of trust are threatened if imprints, privacy policies, cookies, and other regulations are incorrect. Anyone who cuts corners here or relies on hobbyist solutions or the "I can also make websites" mentality risks problems.

Here you can see which points are important.

imprint

Information according to § 5 TMG

An imprint is a legally required provider identification on websites and in publications. It contains information such as the name, address, and contact details of the responsible party. In Germany, companies, associations, and individuals with commercial online offerings are required to provide an imprint. Purely private websites are exempt.

Cookies

and the cookie banner

Cookies are small files stored on your device to collect information about your use of our website. According to the ePrivacy Directive, a cookie banner is only required if consent is required and no "Do Not Track" setting is in place.

Essential cookies, which are necessary for the operation of the website, do not require consent, but should be mentioned in the privacy information.

General terms and conditions (GTC) are standardized contractual terms that regulate the rights and obligations between companies and their customers. In Germany, there is no general legal requirement to use GTC. However, companies that use GTC are obligated to formulate them clearly and understandably. Websites that offer products or services should make their GTC clearly visible to ensure transparency and create legal certainty.

Accessibility

Für welche Unternehmen ist das Pflicht?

Currently, public institutions, such as the federal, state, and local governments, are required to implement accessible websites. This is based on the EU Web Accessibility Directive and the BITV 2.0. Private companies that provide services in the public interest must also meet these requirements. Although there is currently no general requirement for all private websites, accessibility is recommended as a best practice to promote access for all users and avoid legal risks.
